Belfast Maine

Belfast Maine is a pretty 18th-century shipbuilding and merchant town. It has retained a number of its Federal and early Victorian buildings and some of its shipbuilding heritage via its shipyard, which today primarily hosts pleasure boats rather than Clipper ships. A scenic riverfront downtown area is packed with boutiques and galleries.

The town has a pretty Harbor walk that begins at a harbor front park where weary visitors can rest in rocking chairs made of old lobster traps.

The walk progresses one mile past the harbor, still-active shipyard, over a bridge crossing the Passagassawakeag River and along the bank on the other side. In addition to pretty views, one can get a close ciew of a working shipyard along the walk.
