Fort Meyers Florida

As part of our time in Florida, we made a fast stop in Fort Meyers, to enjoy time with Tom’s sister. While we can’t say that this an area that we particularly enjoy (other than being with family), we did manage to find a few restaurants during our time there.

Fort Myers Area Restaurants

USS Nemo

We would never think of a great restaurant in a strip mall? That is what we found at U.S.S. Nemo in Naples. We shared lunch dishes at this wonderful seafood restaurant: a Bento Box with grouper tempura, salmon sashimi, salad and rice; grouper tempura with pineapple slaw, candied walnuts, rice and lightly spiced mango sauce; and the restaurant’s signature dish of pan-fried miso sea bass with rice, asparagus and citrus ginger butter sauce. Each, especially the latter two, was excellent.

This restaurant also happens to be conveniently located next door to another quite good, but not quite at the level of Nemo, seafood restaurant (Swan River Seafood) at which we ate on a previous trip. Of even greater interest than the side-by-side restaurants, Swan River just happens to have its own fish market—one of the best, with the most comprehensive and reasonably priced selections of fresh, wild-caught seafood we have seen—to pick up Alaskan king crab claws (albeit frozen, of course) and littleneck clams. This, combined with stops at the equally large and comprehensively-stocked Total Wine store and a local produce market, provided the evening’s dinner.

Bistro 41

Bistro 41 is located within the Bell Tower Shop. We shared three dishes: raw Asian ahi cubes on a bed of cucumbers and topped with seaweed salad, sweet chili garlic and sweet soy sauce and crisp wonton chips was quite good. Two salads, one mixed greens with marinated portabella, gorgonzola, sun-dried tomatoes, walnuts, balsamic vinaigrette and pesto drizzle and grilled salmon; the other spinach with mushrooms, pecans, dried cranberries, grilled shrimp and warm bacon vinaigrette. Both were both fine, although the $9 supplement for four small shrimp was wildly excessive.
